The Duchess of Malfi

by John Webster / Directed by Grant Barker

The most dangerous thing you can be is yourself.

In a world of total surveillance, loyalty is a transaction and blood is never thicker than ambition. When the widowed Duchess secretly marries her steward, Antonio, she commits a “sin” of passion that defies the iron will of her brothers. What begins as a private act of rebellion spirals into a nightmare of control, madness, and grisly revenge.

John Webster’s masterpiece is a visceral dive into the dark heart of the Jacobean era. The Duchess of Malfi remains a haunting exploration of female agency against a backdrop of institutional rot.
