THE PLAY

‘An incisive, unflinching insight into what makes a community tolerate the unthinkable.’

Midsummer. The village must choose a new Daughter to sail with the fishing boats and bless the waters, keeping them safe from the roaming orcas for another year. Fan hopes with all her heart to be the one they choose. But her older sister Maggie says she must never, never, go with the boats. Because something happened to Maggie out there. And no one will admit it.  

This production is very much about what lies underneath, what is unsaid. I am looking for actors willing to dive head first into the complex emotions that drive the story. Drawing on influences from folklore and mythology, we’ll be exploring exactly how tradition can both save a community and destroy it.

CASTING (for remaining role)

Joshua – 40 – 60 – Maggie and Fan’s dad, he is described as looking as if the joy and strength have been washed out of him. Scared of the consequences of being ostracised from the community, he takes out his frustration on Maggie. He is a man struggling for control in a world where not fitting in can cost you everything.

AUDITION DETAILS

Auditions will take place on Wednesday 23 February and will consist of working on an excerpt from the play with the director and other cast members. Due to only one role being required, auditions will be offered in half an hour slots from 7pm. Please contact Sabrina to book in. REHEARSAL DETAILS

Rehearsals will begin w/c 18 April, three times a week, moving up to four in the last couple of weeks before the show. Rehearsal schedule will be agreed after casting.
